EWC FOUNDATION PROGRAMS

Weekend and Holiday Art Classes at Local Mobile Home Parks and Hotels

Homeless and at-risk students participate in art classes where they learn how to sculpt, paint, draw and create.   Typically, in low socio-economic families, kids don't often have the opportunity to give their parents gifts.  As well, this is a time for kids and families to work on projects together.

Summer Art and Academics Camp

END OF SUMMER CAMP FIELD TRIP

At the end of every summer camp, a sponsor or community partner donates resources and/or services to provide our students with a reward for regular attendance and participation in the summer program.  Last summer, students participated in a culminating activity working with fractions, money and measurement.  They applied these skills in a real life application when they created and calculated the cost to make a pizza.  Students received training in food preparation and went on a tour of the restaurant.  After their hard work, they played too!

Service Learning for Students

Students who participate in our programs including summer and weekends also volunteer at our events.  In addressing the whole child and building developmental assets, it is imperative that our students are empowered by helping others.  It is evident in the photos that students help set up, serve and clean up with our family service programs.

Family Service Programs

Project Homeless Connect

EWC participated with over 80 other local agencies to provide services for homeless families.  EWC provided child care services for parents while they participated and received services from counseling to hair cuts.  Children ages from 3 to 16 completed Christmas art projects including painting, sculpting and decorating the Christmas tree.  Children received toys and parents were able to choose Christmas gifts to give to their children.

Food Programs

In 2012, EWC conducted their first Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the American Inn for homeless families staying in the motels, hotels and mobile home parks on Foothill Blvd. in the cities of Pomona and Claremont.  In partnership with Christ Church of the Valley in Covina, we were able to serve over 200 meals to needy families.

Clothes Closet

In the past year, EWC has been able to give away over 20 boxes, approximately 1,000 lbs, in clothing, shoes, socks and blankets to homeless and needy families, women and children.
